About the City of Hartford
Hartford is the capital city of the U.S. state of Connecticut. It is located in Hartford County on the Connecticut River, north of the center of the state, 24 miles south of Springfield, Massachusetts. Although a small city compared to its neighbors Boston and New York City, Hartford still offers many fantastic things to do. It also attracts most of the national concert tours as well.
Its 2006 population was 124,512. Hartford ranks as the state's third-largest city, after Bridgeport and New Haven, 40 miles (64 km) to the south and the sixth largest in New England. Greater Hartford is also the largest metro area in Connecticut, and 45th largest in the country (2006 census estimate) with a metropolitan population of 1,188,841.
Nicknamed the "Insurance Capital of the World", Hartford houses many of the world's insurance company headquarters, and insurance remains the region's major industry.
In 2012, Hartford welcomes a plethora of great events to its many entertainment venues.
Theatre aficionados in Hartford should plan on buying tickets to Les Misérables. The world's longest running musical is scheduled to run at the Bushnell Theatre March 6-11.
On April 27 you'll be able to catch Nickelback, Bush & Seether live in Hartford playing at the XL Center.
